Seven children in the Doraguda village, Laxmipuram panchayat, Munchingiput Mandal, Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district of Visakhapatnam, have been hospitalized due to a possible anthrax epidemic.

About ten days ago, the tribal residents of the isolated village along the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) ate the meat of dead cattle, after which signs of anthrax spread to seven village kids.

During the medical camp hosted at the weekly market in Laxmipuram a few days ago, the primary health centre (PHC) personnel, Labburu, recognized the symptoms of possible anthrax in seven youngsters.

Dr. Leela Prasad, the additional district medical and health officer for the ASR district, visited the affected village to assess the situation and reported that the seven anthrax-infected childrens conditions were stable. Samples had been gathered and submitted to the KG Hospital in Vizag. All of the villagers received preventive antibiotic doses, and the medical personnel will continue to monitor them for a further seven days in the village.
